Mothering Sunday had a very early start for some of the MK Springers gymnasts and their families. The doors opened at 8.30am for one of the largest county gymnastic events. General Gymnastics is becoming the most popular form of the sport as it enables gymnasts from all levels to compete in a county competition. MK Springers had the second largest entry with a total of 48 gymnasts taking part.
Level 10 got underway with the novice gymnasts, most of whom were competing for the first time. Six yr old Evelyn England who was feeling very poorly on the day, came away with a silver medal. Georgia Sears won bronze, with Shenea Arrowsmith & Daniella Toomey following hot on her heels. Eight yr old Enya Deysel won bronze in her age group with Hannah Bird and Evie Yabsley close behind. Oliver Pardoe just missed out in the boys group. 9yr old age group saw Stacey Arrowsmith winning silver medal with team mates Jessica Nuttall, Hannah Banks and Lucy Ford not far behind. The 10yr old girls was again a close run one with Amy Mead and Sophie Bird just missing out on a podium place. The boys though had a clean sweep with Callum Worster receiving gold and he was joined by Thomas Woolf who won silver. Emily Jenner kept the medals coming, receiving silver and Sam Woodhouse got gold in the boys section.
Level 9 started with Emily England receiving a bronze medal with Amy Smith not far behind after being unlucky on vault. The aged 9 girls saw Lucy Handford and Jessica Singh awarded gold and silver respectfully with Abigail Parker close behind. Chloe Faulkner, Lotanna Okaro and Ellen Hooton were unlucky to be just outside the medals in the 10yr old age group. The older girls showed no fears with Shannon Barby winning gold and Taylor McDonald in silver position with Elise Pollock and Isabelle Graves coming very close behind.
At Level 8 the difficulty level is increased and music is used on floor. Katie Strehl at 8yrs old was desperate to do a floor routine to music and having begged her coach Sarah to move her to this level, she won a bronze medal. 9yr old Georgia Makel was just outside the medals on the aged 9yr level. Little Kyle Ayris showed the 9yr old boys how it was done and won gold. 10yr old Yasmin Lovland came away with a bronze after performing a handspring vault for the first time, twin sister Hannah was not far behind with team mate Laureece Lambert also. Chloe Walpole won gold in the 11yrs old girls with training partner Alexandra Miller just missing out. Cameron Lambert scored a 10.9 on vault and came away with a silver medal.
Level 7 is where the competition really starts to hot up and ages 9,10 and 11 yr olds are grouped together. Katy Smith was unlucky to be just outside the podium places. In the older age group Emma Moore was thrilled to win a gold medal with training team mate Francesca Toomey and Lucy Exley just missing out, but Lewis Murphy walked away with a gold medal in the boys group.
Level 6 saw only two MK Springer gymnasts taking part Emily Becket came away with a bronze medal while Eleanor Broome won gold after performing a tucked back somersault on floor and a half on half off vault, both moves she had never competed before.
MK Springers Club Managers Felicity & Jean want to say a big well done to all the gymnasts and the coaches for all their effort.
“This is what MK Springers is all about, we have gymnasts who train in school halls and community centres in Milton Keynes and Northampton. Some only train one hour a week but they all came here today in their blue leotards, smiled throughout and won more medals than the club has ever known“
