MK Springers Acrobats and Tumblers had to spend the last day of our Indian summer in the gym. The event was the Buckinghamshire County Championships, they were there to become county champions and they were not disappointed.

The Round 1 floor routines started with the Levels 1, 2, & 3 women’s groups competing first. Women’s groups consist of 3 females, 2 bases and a top, who must dance and perform acrobatics moves in unison. In level 1, Emmualla Motto, Charlotte Hacking and Ellie Wheeler walked away with gold medals. In level 2 there was a battle between, Orlagh Fagan/ Natalie Keyte /Jenny Becket and Ella Turner/ Harriet Evans /Ceira Lowe who beat the afore mentioned trio by 0.75 marks. In Level 3 the trio of Bekki Novack/ Sian Evans/ Katie Adams had to perform two floor routines, but the girls held every move and won. Round 2 saw the largest group which is always level 1 woman’s pairs. MK Springers had entered four partnerships into this level so the coaches knew someone would be disappointed and unfortunately its was Megan Ellis/Maya Hoyte who just missed out by 0.9 marks, which saw in 3rd position Lauren Mutitt/Tayah Rogers, 2nd Orlagh Fagan/Niamh Magee and 1st Freya Clarke/Imogen Kingsman. In Level 3 woman’s pairs saw Anna Ryan/Abi Maxwell achieving 1st place. It was the younger club members’ turn on floor next. In Prep B mixed pairs in their first competition together saw Jake Blackhurst/Irina Hayward in 1st place. Prep B woman’s pairs Savannah Thompson/Emily Odwell, again in their first competition, achieved 1st place and finally in prep B men’s pairs James odwell/Kyle Ayris also came 1st. Last were the Novice Groups, Evie Yabsley/Enya Densel/Rosie Burton-Pye came 1st with team mates Abbie Johnson/Lilly Tapp/Tia Masiyano coming 2nd. Overall on floor MK Springers had 9 County Champions plus 3 Sliver medals and 1 bronze medal.

The tumbling competition was also taking place while floor was going on. The lower levels started first with regional B. Competing were: Lilly Tapp, Rosie Burton-Pye, Milly Erasmus, Georgia Anderson, Tia Masiyano ( Bronze), Abbie Johnson (Silver) and Irana Harward (Gold). In Regional B men’s level Jake Blackhurst tumbled away with Gold. Regional C saw Kezi Ononeme achieve Gold also. The Regional D women’s had Evie Yabsley just missing out on the medals but team mate Paige Batt won Silver and Maya Hoyte in her first tumbling event achieved Gold. National 1 had the largest entry, Ciara Lowe missed out on a medal by only 1 mark followed closely by team mate Freya Clarke, Imogen Kingsman, Enya Densel, Niamh Magee, Jodie Blackhurst, Emily Odwell, Jane Lambert, Lauren Mutitt, Taya Rogers and Cypress Thorne. National 2 had Savana Thompson, Ellie Wheeler and Hasha Mundel-Simpkin just missed out on a podium position. Kyle Aryis had some stiff compitetion but achieved 5th place in National 2 mens. National 3 saw Natalie Keyte coming 2nd with Bekki Novack coming 3rd place. Emmanualla Motta just missed out as did Megan Ellis and Charlotte Hacking.

Elite 1 tumbling saw only MK Springers tumblers competing; Chloe Walpole, Orlagh Fagan and Abi Maxwell, cheered as Eloise Driscol won bronze, Ella Turner received Silver and Harriet Evans surprised even herself by achieving Gold. James Odwell, competing for the first time in tumbling, achieved 1st place in Elite 1 men’s. In Elite 2 Jenny Becket and Sian Evans battled it out with Jenny receiving bronze and Sian achieving Gold. Last to compete was Eleanor Broome who was competing some new tumbles but she was not fazed and walked away with a Gold medal.

Club manager Jean Heffer-Rahn who also judged floor on the day said “I know all these boys and girls have worked hard for this competition, they are proud to be county champions, over all the club has achieved 16 tumbling medals and 12 group medals on floor. Now the coaches will have to decide whom they will take to the regional championships next month in Southampton”

On Sunday 9th April the inaugural MK Springers Sports Acro & Tumbling Open took place at Kiln Farm Gym. Coaches and parent volunteers alike were working hard in the days leading up to Sunday, making sure that every last detail had been covered prior to the arrival of the visiting clubs. This was billed as a friendly competition, in that it was restricted to novice gymnasts who had not competed earlier in the year at the regional championships. Therefore the audience were watching the potential future regional champions, many of whom were competing for the first time. Our visiting clubs came from Luton Salto, Stevenage SAGC and Chermond (all the way from Norwich!). The 200+ spectators on the day had lots to cheer about.

The tumbling competition got off to a great start for MK Springers with Betsy Tapp winning Gold at Regional A Age 6. In Age 7 at this level MK Springers had a clean sweep with Chiara Primanato, Millie Home and Grace Farrow filling the 1,2 & 3 slots respectively. At Age 8 the competition got tougher with the gold going to Stevenage, silver to Abbie Johnson fro MK Springers and bronze to a gymnast from Chermond. Mk Springers’ Jake Blackhurst was only just outside the medals in fourth place. At Regional B, Age 7 , Laura Holland tumbled her way to victory, At age 9-10, Imogen Myrie came first while Rachel Carr came a creditable fourth place. At Regional C, the highest level competed on the day; Evie England won gold at Age 8. In the 9-10 age bracket, there was another clean sweep for the home club with Tayah Rogers, Emily England and Evie Yabsley coming in 1, 2 & 3 respectively. The same happened at Age 13+ with the top 3 spots in order going to Cypress Thorne, Lauren Cartwright and Holly O’Brien.

In Sports Acro there was a novel competition for teams of 6 very young novice gymnasts to compete in a floor routine. Much to the delight of the crowd, MK Springers filled both the gold and silver positions with the bronze going to Stevenage.

In the regular competition at Prep A women’s pairs Jessica Chandler/Rachel Carr came third, the winners being Chermond with Stevenage in third place. In Prep B pairs the judges were unable to split the pairings of Holly O’Brien/Jane Lambert and Lauren Cartwright/Evie Yabsley who were joint first with the silver going to Shannon Hughes/Paige Batt . In Level 1 women’s pairs Mk Springers fought off strong competition from the other 3 clubs to finish in first place (Freya Clark/Imogen Kingsman ) and also in second ( Charlotte Hacking/Niamh Magee).

All involved were left feeling very proud of this new addition to the competition calendar.

They have all been awarded certificates and hopefully given an insight through the displays we put on here today on how gymnastics can develop from grass root to county, regional national and international level” As community coach I am always looking for naturally talented boys and girls and we have seen many of them perform here today”
