On Sunday 21st March 2010 MK Springers Gymnastics Club entered 70 gymnasts into the Bucks General Floor & Vault Competition, and came away with 3 bronze, 8 silvers and 8 gold medals.

In level 10 there were 24 gymnasts entered. One of the youngest competitors Chiara Primonato, aged 6, performed a beautiful floor routine and a fantastic vault gaining her 1st position in her 1st ever competition. In the boys age 7 section Oliver Crew-Gee, Lewis Dunning, Harry Bailey and Jake Blackhurst all had good competitions, with Oliver gaining the gold medal and Lewis coming very close behind receiving the silver medal. In the age 7 girls Lauren Hendey performed a good vault and overall scored 23.7 putting her in the gold medal position. With 8 girls in the age 8 group from MK Springers, the gymnasts had a tough competition, Shenea Arrrowsmith perfomed very well on the day came away with the silver medal. Isi Lancaster perfomed the best floor routine, but missed out on the medals. In the age 9 boys Oliver Pardoe performed a solid floor routine with 2 good vaults to gain him 1st position overall. Laura Baird was competing in the age 12 girls group and finished in 3rd gaining her the bronze medal. If a gymnast scores over a certain mark they have to move up to the next level, so well done to: Chiara Primonato, Lewis Dunning, Lauren Hendey, Shenea Arrowsmith, Mollie French, Brooke Carey, Erin Lane, Rebekah Potter, Annie Mcgarr for all moving up to Level 9. Also well done to Freya Woodward, Holly Eaton, Chloe Gibbins, Amelia Bridle, Alisha Sharma, Rachel Webber, Evie Roberts, Kia-Rose Moloney and Demi Godfrey for all putting in a lot of hard work practicing for the competition.

In the level 9 category 12 gymnasts were competing for podium places. In the age 7/8 girls Phoebe Briggs gained 2nd place overall and Hannah Savill who scored the highest mark on floor, just missed out on a medal. In the age 9 girls Erin Somes had a good competition, but the level of other competitors was very high and Erin missed out on a medal. In the age 10 girls Stacey Arrowsmith had a good competition achieving 2nd place on vault, but also just missed out on a medal. Gymnasts achieving the score to move up to Level 8 include: Phoebe Briggs, Hannah Savill, Stacey Arrowsmith, Katy Tann and Ciara Price, well done girls. Gymnasts who also competed well but missed out on medals included: Isobel Wilson, Mia Barlow, Rebecca West, Elizabeth Kinrade, Lauren Hamilton and Kia Robinson.

In the level 8 competition some of the female gymnasts were competing floor routines to music for the first time. Georgia Sears, competing in the age 8 group, had a very good competition and achieved the bronze medal. In the age 9 girls group Katie Strehl and Amy Smith both had good competitions, with Katie coming 1st overall and scoring high enough to move up to Level 7, Amy came 3rd on floor, but just missed the bronze medal. Thanks to Katie’s’ dad too who made the medal presentation one to remember! In the age 9 boys Scott Pollock and Luke Harrison both competed well, Scott overall achieved the silver medal and Luke performed a good vault, 3rd place, but just missed on an overall medal. The age 10 girls group had a lot of entries, Abigail Parker performed the best floor routine of the group but unfortunately finished in 4th place overall. The age 11 girls group also had a lot of entries, but this did not bother Yasmin Loveland who performed a very good handspring vault, which earned her the Silver medal. In the age 12 girls group a very poorly Taylor McDonald pushed herself to perform her floor routine and vaults to finish in a very respectable 5th place. Elise Pollock performed the best vault of the group but also just missed out on a medal. This was a very tough competition with only a handful of gymnasts moving up the next competition level. Well done to Jessica Singh, Georgia Makel, Lucy Ford, Jessica Nuttal, Hannah Loveland, Megan Peddle, Laureece Lambert, Lotanna Okaro, Isabelle Graves, Sophie Pardoe, Thomas Woolf, Maya Patel and Bethany Williams who all competed very well.

The level 7 competition upped the skill level. The gymnasts in this level have special requirements which they need to perform to gain bonus marks. Becca McKay, Katy Smith and Grace Cross were all competing in the age 11/12 group. All 3 gymnasts performed lovely floor routines with only 0.2 separating their scores, so it was down to their vaults. Becca performed a beautiful handspring vault which landed her in the bronze medal position, Katy and Grace both performed good vaults but they just missed on the medals, with Katy finishing in 4th and Grace in 5th. All 3 girls all achieved high enough scores to move them up to Level 6. Zoe Rymer and Lucy Exley were competing in the age13/14 group and again both girls had very good competitions with Zoe performing one of her best handspring and Lucy performing one of the highest scoring floor routines of the day. Zoe finished in 1st place and Lucy was very close behind in 2nd.

The Level 6 competition is getting bigger each year, with MK Springers entering 5 gymnasts. Eleanor Broome and Chloe Walpole were competing in the age 11/12 group, both gymnasts competed very well. Chloe performed a round-off flick in her floor routine for the first time. Overall Eleanor scored highly on both floor and vault and finished in 1st place, with Chloe finishing right behind in 2nd. Emily Beckett, age 14 group, performed a good a vault, but missed out on the medals. Cameron Lambert and Lewis Murphy were the only boys in Level 6. Both competed well, with both having front somersaults in their floor routines. Cameron finished in 1st place with Lewis close behind in 2nd.

Although the day was very long, starting at 8.30am and finishing at 9.00pm, the gymnasts made the day what it was. MK Springers is very proud of all the gymnasts who entered the competition and would like to give a big thank you to all the parents who came down to support them.
